As part of the Climate Farm Demo Project, Clara Bosch from the Regeneration Academy and farmer Alfonso Chico de Guzmán present climate-smart farming practices at La Junquera Farm. In this video, they explain why and how to create effective ponds for water management. With climate change causing more extreme rainfall and prolonged droughts, ponds play a crucial role in capturing excess water and allowing it to infiltrate into the soil. Alfonso highlights how this process helps replenish aquifers, boost biodiversity, and create carbon sinks. Clara demonstrates how to strategically position ponds, plan overflow exits to prevent dam breakage, and suggests building ponds with separate sediment traps to minimize maintenance.
